Training and Experience
After working for many years in Ireland I moved to the US in August 2008. I returned to school and in 2011 I earned my Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University, Pleasant Hill, California.
From 2011-2014 I worked as a therapist with Lincoln Child Center, in Oakland, California treating adolescents and families with mental health needs, including depression, anxiety, and severe trauma symptoms. During this time I offered individual, family and group therapy including utilizing Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to target trauma symptoms.
At Lincoln Child Center, I practiced as a certified Multi-Dimensional Family Therapist (MDFT) in an intensive outpatient family-based treatment of families; adults and adolescents with dual diagnosis; addiction with additional co-occurring disorders such as PTSD or other anxiety and mood disorders. Service included: direct assessment, diagnosis, formulation and implementation of treatment plan in clinic and client home setting. Treatment involved individual, couples and family therapy focusing on a brief therapy model including trauma processing.
Since August 2015, I have been working in private practice in Corvallis, Oregon, treating adolesents, adults, couples and families. In 2020 I began and continue to treat in person and via telehealth.
